John, Sumit, and Eddie organized a trek last weekend under my guidance. I know John is the people person, so I assigned him as the trek's rear leader.

My observations during the trek:

  • When the team arrived at regrouping points, he informally accounted for the people arriving from the rear before rejoining the larger group. He did this without being prompted by me.
  • Whenever a participant needed a timeout, he let me know on a call without any nagging.
  • When I asked the participants about John's behavior after the trek ended, everyone gave a thumbs up to bringing him along on our next trek, since he never got irritated with any participant and always cheered them up with jokes.

Sending a small tip in appreciation of his kind support. ðŸ˜„

Me (front leader), John, and Sumit along with our supervisor (Vivek) organized a day long trek. John was assigned the task to be the rear leader.

My observations:

  • When the group stopped, John reached the stopping point last and gave us a quick indication of who was still behind before settling down himself.
  • When we were taking a break, John noticed an exhausted member and asked whether their issue was the terrain, water, or their backpack rather than simply telling them to catch up next.

We were a team of 3 college students, along with an experienced trekker. We organised a trek for 10 people; John was assigned as the rear leader to ensure no one was left behind.

My observation about John:

  • When a participant (Katie) ran out of energy to keep up with the trek's pace, he called me and said he'd stay with him and that I should drop back to lead the rear.
  • When that same participant refused to continue the trek, he had her sit at a local stall, made sure her heart rate had settled, and only then called me to say he'd resume leading the rear.
  • When we were traveling to the trek spot, he stayed quiet and kept to himself, but I saw him engage enthusiastically with participants during the trek.

A team of 3 college students, along with an experienced trekker, organised a trek for 10 people; I was assigned as the rear leader responsible for keeping the last person connected with the group.

My observations:

  • When one participant repeatedly fell behind, I noticed that they were struggling more on inclines than flat sections and adjusted my pace accordingly rather than repeatedly asking them to hurry.
  • When someone stopped for water, I waited until they were ready before moving ahead, while informing the person in front that we were temporarily stopping.
  • When the group continued the trek after a break, I checked the rear of the group before leaving the spot so that nobody was accidentally left behind.
